Isabel Thomas Dobson was installed as Moderator of the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania on 20 September 2009.
Isabel is a lay person who has always known the love and care of the church. She grew up in rural Victoria near Numurkah and moved to Melbourne for tertiary study.

Isabel has worked as a secondary teacher, a political researcher and training and supporting volunteer Christian Religious Education teachers. With her husband Kevin Dobson she has moved across Bass Strait four times as he served in congregations in Longford Tasmania, Ouyen and the Central Mallee, North Launceston and Bendigo. She has three young adult children. From 1997-1999 Isabel was Moderator of the Synod of Tasmania. From 2001 until 2004 she was interim supply Presbytery Minister for Loddon Campaspe presbytery, then Presbytery Minister there from April 2004-December 2007. With the new presbytery structure Isabel became Presbytery Minister (Pastoral Care) for the Presbytery of Loddon Mallee. Isabel has wide experience of the Church through congregations, presbytery, synod and assembly. She has been an Elder in the past four congregations where she has been a member, Secretary of the Presbytery of Mallee, involved with committees ranging from children’s ministry to aged care and a member of the last five Assemblies. She is a current member of the Assembly Standing Committee and has been a member of three previous Standing Committees. |
Isabel believes every Christian is called to active discipleship, to live in ways which help others know God and to bring God’s love and justice to all people and to all creation. Isabel longs for Uniting Church members to live out their faith with passion and confidence, being willing to let go of old ways which are no longer serving us well.
