Mission Support Fund

The Mission Support Fund is the central mission fund of the Uniting Church in Australia, Synod of Victoria and Tasmania.

From it grants are made for ministry education, ecumenical activities, cross-cultural ministry, advocacy activities, congregational support and governance and administration — to name just some of the supported areas.

Receiving a Grant

Mission Support Fund grants are usually allocated where a parish is requiring financial support for at least three to five years to “seed” a project for the future.

The general criteria for a Mission and Service Grant are:

  • The project for which the application is made is broadly within the priorities set by the Synod for the particular period.
  • Generally projects funded seek to establish a base from which ongoing work may be sustained.
  • Grants generally tend to extend for a limited period (three to five years) to allow funds to be available for new projects.
  • The project has the approval of the presbytery (the appropriate presbytery being the one with the oversight role for the applicant). This ensures that the project is broadly consistent with the presbytery strategy.
  • Projects and activities dependent in whole or in part on the Mission Support Fund submit detailed financial statements annually for the previous year and projections for the ensuing years on the appropriate application forms.

Representatives from presbyteries and functional areas within the Synod meet annually in July. They decide which projects should be recommended to the Synod meeting for support in the following year.

To make an application, please contact Natalie Brown at the Synod office for a Board of Mission and Resourcing Proposal Form by phoning 9251 5420.

Supporting the Mission Support Fund

You support mission and ministry through the Mission Support Fund by:

  • growing your congregation’s Mission and Service Contribution — a regular contribution for wider church mission;
  • making additional gifts and bequests for the church’s mission;
  • sharing your congregation’s excess assets with the whole church;
  • investing your congregation’s and your own funds with UCA Funds Management.
