Internal Audit

The internal audit function has been created to:

  1. Provide professional expertise to congregations, presbyteries and UnitingCare agencies to support them in fulfilling their stewardship responsibilities in relation to financial and risk management within our Synod; and
  2. To do so incorporating the theological, pastoral and spiritual imperatives that are integral to our calling as a Church and the people of God.

We hope you will find this initiative of value and that you will welcome Internal Audit into your communities.

An Internal Audit Charter has been created and approved by the Synod Audit Committee to provide the functional and organisational framework within which the internal audit is to operate. This document sets out the nature, role, status and responsibility of the internal audit function and operation. At all times the internal audit function and operation will be guided by the principles of the theological reflection and the terms of government as set out in the preamble to the charter and in accordance with the Basis of Union.

The internal audit plan is achieved by liaising and visiting presbyteries, congregations and UnitingCare agencies to review their financial and operational controls as described in the document "Internal Audit Brochure".

It is also achieved through the use of a self assessment checklist to review the financial and operational aspects of congregations.
