Presbytery of Tasmania

Welcome to the Presbytery of Tasmania

 Stones and roots.JPG

"Following Christ, walking together as First and Second Peoples, seeking community, compassion and justice for all creation."

We are the people of the Uniting Church in the island state of Tasmania, Australia. We connect with fifty four congregations, eight aged care facilities, three Uniting Care welfare agencies and one school.

We work as disciples of Jesus, helping to build the Kingdom of God in this place.

Lay Preachers Open Space Day
10am Saturday 1st April 2017
Longford Uniting Church, 3 High Street Longford

To all who are interested in the future of Lay Preachers in Tasmania,

You are invited to participate in a Day for Lay Preachers.  This is a day to engage in conversations around the future of Lay Preachers in Tasmania.  The Lay Preachers Association has been in recess and it is time to open up the possibilities around what's next.

How will we connect, support and encourage those who are Lay Preachers in the Presbytery?  What does the connection with the wider church look like?  What do we do with the funds that are currently being kept in care by the Presbytery?
RSVP with any dietary requirements is important before the 25th March.  The cost for lunch is $5.00.

Refresh  with Rev Bill Loader

Lay Leadership Conference

10.00am—3.00pm Saturday 29 April

Robert Dean Centre, Scotch Oakburn College,

85 Penquite Road, Launceston

You are invited to hear Rev Bill Loader at this gathering:  Bill is a minister of the Uniting Church in Australia and emeritus professor of New Testament at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia.

He engages world wide with communities as he encourages people to encounter Jesus through the New Testament gospels and letters.  He has a passion for young people, for learning and for open conversations around issues that matter in the life of the wider community and the church.

Bill contributes to the life of the church through his writing and research.  His recent work around first century Judaistic and Christian attitudes to sexuality has assisted the discussions across the whole Uniting Church as we continue to grapple with difference around sexuality.  He invites to dialogue with some of the difficult questions we may have, and to be respectful as we talk together with difficult issues.  His approach to the New Testament, informs the way in which Bill encourages the church to continue to follow in the way of Jesus.

Lunch: $15. Please let us know of any special dietary requirements.

RSVP 19 April, 2017 to or 6331 9784
