Rev Dr Mark Lawrence, BA, GradDipEd, BTheol, MLitt, PhD, MEd(Lead)
Mark Lawrence commenced as General Secretary of the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania on 1 November 2012.
Mark was ordained in 1988 and served in congregation, presbytery, and synod placements prior to being called to his current role. His ministry interests include peacemaking and spirituality, leadership, organisational development and mediation.
Married with two school-aged children, Mark worked in youth ministry and youth affairs in church and community contexts prior to his ordination.
Mark is a strong advocate of the Basis of Union, believing that it is as significant today as when the three churches (Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregationalist) became the Uniting Church in Australia in 1977.
In his role as General Secretary, Mark is keen to encourage Church members to seek continually to renew the mission of the Church as a demonstration of Christ's reconciliation. He urges the Church to keep looking for 'fresh words and deeds' for its ongoing worship, witness and service, in order to remain vibrant and relevant.
