Social Justice

Concern for social justice and the care of God's creation are part of the ongoing call to faithful church members across the Uniting Church. It is at the heart of the life of Jesus, central to the gospels and embodied in the Uniting Church's Basis of Union.

The Uniting Church Synod of Victoria and Tasmania has a strong and compelling social justice presence, with the Justice and International Mission (JIM) unit.

JIM

JIM provides resources to engage and educate the church about social justice issues. Crucially, JIM facilitates opportunities for church members to speak out about the issues that concern them, to be a voice for justice in the wider community.

We work hand in hand with congregations and social justice networks to shift and shape public policy.

The gap between the poorest and the wealthiest around the world is wide and growing. We must do more to empower individuals through decent work, support people through social protection, and ensure the voices of the poor and marginalised are heard.
United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon.
