The Assembly is the national council of the Uniting Church and has responsibility in all matters of doctrine, worship, government and discipline which sets national policy and promotes the Church's mission in the world.
UnitingWorld is an integral part of the Assembly, overseeing the international church partnerships of the Uniting Church and building relationships between the people of the Uniting Church and our overseas partners that are mutually transforming. Practically, the Agency manages programs implemented by overseas partners in the areas Christian Leadership and Institutional Strengthening, Poverty Alleviation, Gender Equality, Climate Change and Humanitarian Response. Accredited with the Australian Government, a member of the Australian Council for International Development and a member of ACT Alliance, UnitingWorld is committed to the highest standards of international engagement.
Reporting operationally to the General Secretary of the Assembly and accountable to the National Committees of UnitingWorld, the role of National Director will provide overall management for the organisation, leadership in fundraising in order for UnitingWorld to achieve its goals and objectives, as well as leading a high performing team. This role is based in Sydney, however regular travel within Australia and overseas will be required.
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate experience in cross-cultural, international relationships, entrepreneurial business development, fundraising and communications across a church or similar not-for-profit environment, people leadership, strategic thinking and execution, and contemporary communication technologies.
Familiarity with and an understanding of the international aid and development sector and the particular challenges and opportunities of working through churches in our Asia pacific region is essential. An understanding of the Uniting Church, its ethos and structure, would be considered advantageous, as would tertiary qualifications in a related field.
This role requires outstanding verbal and written communication skills in order to deal with a diverse range of stakeholders. Significant project management experience and the ability to multi-task across projects and organisations is key.
